Building ministers meet in Sydney amid safety crisis

Published on

Federal and State governments have been warned construction projects will suffer if there's no agreement on how to improve safety standards.

Today's Building Ministers forum in Sydney comes after evacuations from three damaged high rise apartments across the city.

The question of whether the federal or state governments should pay to remove dangerous combustible cladding from buildings is also on the agenda.

The Property Council of Australia's Chief Executive Ken Morrison says a national action plan is needed.

""The onus is really on Australia's building ministers today, to address the key issues, and if they don't, we will see construction projects stop. And we'll miss an opportunity to fix a set of problems that have been with us for some time," he said.
